Default What do you use to pitch shift to give a bigger vocal?

Hi,
Ive been doing some reading on how to make my mono vocal track sound "bigger" and more stereo (maybe its called "wider"?).

Ive read that I can create 3 tracks - 1 hard left, 1 centre and 1 hard right with the left and right pitch shifted a little.

I tried this using the built in cubase function (which took ages to process the whole 3 tracks...) but the sound quality was poor.

Does anyone here use a VST plugin to pitch shift a track? Or should I just create the bigger/wider vocal effect some other way?

Thanks,
AM.

I agree, I am not happy with the built in Pitch shift in Cubase. I tried to transpose a vocal and I sounded like Alvin. I'm interested in what is out there. Also harmony processing software. I have a Digitech vocalist, but it is hard to use.

You do not necessarily need to pitch shift the copies in order to fatten the voice. Try experimenting with short delays and different EQ settings for each track. Just make sure to avoid flanging and other phase issues.

You have to make sure you keep the pitch the same. There is a checkbox for that.

The pitch up a few cents and down a few cents trick has been around for a while. It's definitely one of a zillion possibilties for making vocals sound "cooler". Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.

The Eventide processor is what really started this so I guess that is where I would start first. I personally don't use the trick very often and I can't even remember what I used when I did use it.

Let us know if you find anything.
