so first off this isnt my first post i just had to get a different name....2nd thanx 2 everyone who takes the time to read this and help out.....so basically i know my fair share about recording but i have encountered somewhat of a interestin situation....
I came across some $$$$$ recently and i decided to put it into my music "suprise"....well over the last 6 months or so i have gathered some nice equipment....EXCEPT i seem to still be runnin my very first stereo mixer "alesis multimis 6FX" which isnt really what i need now since im really gettin known and moved up my level of standards "better equipment" plus ppl are payin me to record them now as well which is my 2nd occupation right bind doin my own music....but it was only like 90 bux like 2 years ago when i picked it up along with a "audio technica" dynamic mic, now times have changed i run a high end condenser tube mic...and im just curious would going from the alesis to for instace a 2 buss "mackie, yahama or something along those lines" make a difference at all in my quality of recordings which arent bad at all but its always nice to improve... or would i be better off gettin one of the new "analog/interface" mixers that bypasses ur sound card? becasue my sound card isnt exactly new its just basic but i feel like i need a new mixer to accent the mic...i feel like im riding in a chevelle SS with a V6....i do "rap hip hop" if that matters, now i dont have a powerful enoguh pc to run like protools with onboard mixers and all that so im sticking to analog plus i like them.....so opinions are welcome...do i drop a couple hundred on a nicer mixer or will it not be much of an improvement??? THANX AGAIN Last edited by GetItRight9807 : 05-22-2008 at 04:17 PM. |

Your Alesis is a good, inexpensive little mixer. That's the exact category Mackie and Yamaha tend to fall into. So with that in mind I wouldn't expect any noticeable difference in sound quality. It's hard enough to hear the differences when dealing with SSL, Neve, API, etc which cost exponentially more than Mackie. Quote:
If you have a bunch of money to blow, a new preamps isn't a bad choice. How much do you want to spend? Inexpensive preamps that get good reviews are the Groove Tubes Brick and RNP. What are you using for studio monitors? That's ALWAYS the first place I recommend upgrading. Another option is upgrading your plugins. Brandon

Oh. I see.
They are talking about the difference between digital mixing and analog mixing. This is from back in the day when these were the only two options. 95% of all home recording people are mixing in the box which means you do all your mixing within the software and hit "export" or "render" to mix the tracks together. If you were to use this mixer in that way, it technically would be an analog mixer. Brandon
