Default Waves C4 Multiband Compressor Plugin

I was doing some final tweaking on a vocal. I wanted to hit just the low mids with maybe 1dB of compression so I grabbed the Waves C4. Immediately, the entire vocal got DULL! I mean I had it right where I wanted it and it sounded like I just knocked off 2dB from anything above 2Khz. It made the problem WAY worse.

The interesting part is I had all the individual bands on bypass.

When I bypassed the entire plugin, my highs were back.

It actually sounded more like a loss in fidelity than just EQ. I have never seen such a drastic loss in fidelity. I never really paid attention.

Is anyone else having this problem? I'm going to need to use something because I don't really want to have to automate the entire song to cut 1dB from the low mids everytime the singer hits a phrase that sounds deeper.

I may try the Voxengo stuff.

I need to look into more. I've got a feeling that something was causing this. I'm not sure what.

I've never noticed it before I've used that plugin for years.

I'll try to repeat it and see what happens.
