depends on your budget and needs of course, but 2 mics that I like a lot in the cheaper range is a shure sm7b ($350) and I also like the oktava mods that Michael Joly is doing at OktavaMod - Affordable Boutique Microphones. I got a used mk319 for $100 and had it modded for $250, so for $350 got a very stellar mic that to my ears sounds better than my more expensive ones most times.

A lot of folks have said it but it is true. The best mic is the one that sounds best for the singer and song. I have some nice high end pres and mics but recently used an SM57 on a male vocal cause it was right for the song. You also need good monitors, converters, and pres to make sure what you hear is what is actually recorded to make a good judgement.

I recently got a Pearlman TM-1 used and I must say it blows the other mics I have used out of the water. I love it. It sounds good on most sources, and compared to the Neumann TLM-103 that I sold when I bought the Pealman, it is much, much better to my ears. |

What Brandon said. But I know it's tough when you have a very limited budget. If you can afford two vocal mics, I recommend going with a condenser and a dynamic.

I have a couple OSP stm-1300 I use for vocals acoustic guitar & overhead on drums I do sell them on ebay BUT I WOULDN'T if I didn't truly think they are an awsome mic.for the price , I did initially have some problem with the fact they are made in china but after doing a BUNCH of research I found about 90some% of the mics etc. sold were made in china. also not to sound like a salesman but I try out all the osp products before I put em on ebay , an only have found a few minor things on most of their products that need improvement , it helps us be able to afford a decent quality product affordability we all know the equipment we use cost an arm and a leg by the time we are done getting everything we need, plus guys like me make a few extra bucks selling on ebay instead of spending hours packing up our drum kit loading unloading and doing it again I love to play but at the age of 53 I've moved enough gear for 2 life times again I didn't mean to sound like a salesman I'm just trying to justify selling a product made overseas & my opinion is 100% honest about the mics or I wouldn't sell them the profit is very small anyway but thanks for listening!
