I think the 1641 is a good device. I run it with Cubase 5 & Waves Diamond on a Vista32 platform. I have found it to be quite stable. I don't care much for the Cubase LE product, but if i didnt have Cubase 4 & 5 to compare it to...maybe it would be ok. I only wish it had more outputs as i would like to use it live. 4 is simply not enough to do what i want to do. I have had trouble with M-Audio drivers on Vista, so I stay clear of M-Audio. Just my 2 cents.

Cool Re: Tascam US-1641 USB 2.0 Audio Interface Review

Well, I've been extremely happy with the 1641. The sound is clean and I can leave everything set up for recording whenever I have an idea or the band comes over. I used it with Cubase (briefly) but have been using it with Garageband for demos. So far, so good.

I just got this interface in. Do I have to have USB 2.0 for it to work properly? I got it to work, but there it a buzzing sound when I record. Help?

yes, usb 2.0 is definitely a requirement. 1.1 simply does not have the bandwidth required for it to function properly.

Nevermind, my computer has it, I just needed to upgrade the drivers. My works great! And It does work for Mixcraft, just in a very weird way.

Seems to me that anything that you plug into a PC is a gamble. I'm ready to put a sledgehammer through my tascam 1641 right now.

Just picked one of these up and used it over the weekend into an Eee PC Netbook running SONAR 7 producer. I had some issues with skipping presumably due to the slow 5400RPM drive, but I'm impressed so far. Great affordable interface for USB 2.0 computers. With regards to headphone mix, there is a knob which blends direct with the playback and you most certainly can monitor prerecorded tracks through the headphone output.
