It's been a long time since I installed mine but I don't recall having to activate anything over the internet.

Can you post exactly what it says and what step you're on?

Update: I called TASCAM and they were very helpful. There are two updates that I thought I had loaded, but had not. The one that did the trick was the Firewire download. Now I get a solid handshake from TASCAM to mac. And yes, the sound is very, very clean. Thanks.

I just ordered this interface. I want to confirm, This unit does allow you to record multiple tracks at once, for micing drums, it records each mic as a different track, Correct?

Correct. I regularly record 14 tracks at once. Not just separate tracks for drums, but our entire band.

Awesome, I use Mixcraft since I fell in love with Garageband and then my mac exploded. Mixcraft is like Garageband for windows. I'm pretty sure I can record multiple tracks on mixcraft for what I want to do, right?

Never used Mixcraft or Garageband. I've used Cubase v2-4 successfully with the unit.

Does the Software that comes with it easy to use? I'm new to this stuff and I've read the Manual to the US-1641 to help me get started for when it does come in.
I just want to be able to record the drums, EQ, Compresser, and Reverb them. Is that easy for the Cubebase it comes with?

I think so. It comes with Cuase LE (light version) that just has some restrictions to things like the total number of tracks.

I used to use Cakewalk, then switched to Cubase and found Cubase easier in some areas, but being used to Cakewalk there were some things that were difficult to transition to.

I'd say Cubase is simple enough to get started with but just spend some time reading over the basics and intro-tutorials and stuff. It should be able to do what you want without havint to buy anything else.

DON't BUY it, if this is outboard gear Presonus Firestudio 2626 or M-AUDIO 2626 is the better option...Firestudio has awesome mic preamps and clarity of sound.
