I have had no problems whatsoever with the sound quality of the recordings. The only downside that this device comes with is higher latency, though this is not a problem for 'at once' recording. If you start multitracking with it, you will probably start realizing its limitations. For straight recording, I don't think you can find a better interface for the money.

i just returned mine. Not because I was unhappy with the unit, but just because I didn't like the whole computer recording buisiness nearly as much as my multitrack standalone. Im 16 and more of a musician than a producer, and i think cubase, etc is more geared toward people who spend the majority of their time mixing/mastering as apposed to playing. My personal preference led me to stick with my old school equipment |

Just an update I suppose since I've been using this unit since it came out. I still have no problems with this unit including no latency issues (24bit/44hz 20+ tracks, cubase SX 2, 1yr+ old quad core, 2GB RAM). The recording quality seems fine to me although I'm just a novice. So still very happy with this unit and still highly recommend them for the price. I have not been keeping up on any other reviews of this unit. Cheers |

From one novice to another (though you seen alot farther along): I just bought the 1641 and it sounds great, but I cannot get my devices to show in the TASCAM control panel. I ran the installation disk, installed the devices on the disk, then went to tascam.com and got the current firmware, etc just like it says in the manual. When I go to Control Panel, it just says 'device: none found.' I'm sure this is simple stuff but it is eluding me. I am plugged into a powerbook mac via the usb. When I pull up Cubase there is no device listed other than the internal mac inputs. Any ideas? Thanks for your time. Quote:

Not sure how much help I can be as I'm on a PC. I've run Cubase v2 and v4 and haven't had any issues with the device showing up. Although it is a pain trying to remember the right steps as it's all VST device stuff. I think there was one audio driver setting to select (when setting up the VST inputs) which made it recognize everything. Hope that helps |
