Default Switching from 4x12 to 2x12 cabinets

I've had enough with using 4x12 cabinets in the studio. A 1x12 cabinet usually goes louder than you'd ever want to go. Why on earth do I have 4 12" speakers?? It's ridicilous. I'm not sure if it will improve audio quality, but it will save me some cash and my hearing. Some guys say that too much volume stresses mics and often sounds less than ideal.

2x12's are pretty good compromise, being that it they are more than enough to gig with and definately save your back some problems down the road. save the walls of 4x12's for the stadiums

Haha. The lead in my band has a 1950's stock brand tube combo that hes done massive work to, but remains going through a 6 inch speaker, and he runs one other amp into a 112. Other guitarist plays through a fender twin reverb. Then you got me the bassist, hauling ampeg 810's everywhere i go. i envy u guys. but i agree, guitar doesnt require lots of speakers. I've never recorded a 410 or 412 in my life and said hey, that helped.
