Default On the subject of ITB EQ

On the subject of EQ.

I just got the new UAD Neve 1073 which I think is the cat's nuts for good sounding ITB EQ... but obviously, this eq is limited in bands etc... anyway, to make a long story short, I just got the URS EQ bundle. Now I am loving life! The graphic's (A10 and N12 band) are just awesome, the api "A" is very smooth and the "S" allowed me to tweak a mix to exactly the way I heard it. I have not even tried the pultec/blt or others yet...

anyone else using these?...

I have never really like the UAD Cambridge much and now I think I know why... not to mention it can sound a bit rough up top and it never seems to get things quite right (may be the operator though)... but it's designed to have to look at it when adjusting parameters (It does do some things very well to be fair). I don't know about anyone else, I don't care to see the eq curve I'm creating, it just distracts me. I like using analog eq, and maybe even not for the sound alone... no more graphs for me unless they are on my balance sheet!

I am using some of the URS stuff as well. The 10 band graphic is my go to eq for sculpting and chiseling, as I really like the visual aspects with a graphic. Great plugin!

I keep threatening to get the Neve stuff. Maybe I should.

Interesting that this works for you. The visual way of working almost always leads me down the path of destruction.

I totally understand what your saying. It can be a total nightmare for most people. I have a visual learning style though, which is why I love being able to just glance at it and see whats happening. Thats also why all my outboard has big chunky knobs with very readable indicating arrows or lines, so I can just glance towards the rack, and see whats happening.

I think this is common. The problem is with beginners who have a visual listening style.

It sounds like you've got your system down, though.

Yeah Im happy with it. I am just setting up to mix my own record next month, and must say, that every time I do a project like this, I tend to learn a little more about my system, and what I can do with it. Thats the beauty of knowing your stuff. For the off chance that something happens and your like... wait what? What the hell was that? Did it record??? haha. For me being able to not only hear (obviously), but to see what I am doing at a glance, pushes my limits, and production higher.
