Default Stereo recording techniques!!

Hi all,

Today im pleased to say that ive bought two Presonus Tube Pre's and the RODE NT-5 stereo mic set.(with stereo bar!)

Ive been trying out various micing methods all afternoon but am confused about whether i need to hard pan the L + R mono input channels in Cubase SX3, during recording to acheive the stereo sound. Please, do i need to hard pan these channels?(is this correct?)

Im recording acoustic guitars btw.

THANKS

Uhh, do whatever you want or what the song calls for. There is no "proper" way to do anything. Just play with it. You could record one stereo track which will hard pan the signal for you. You can record dual mono and pan the tracks however you feel like it (including not using one of the tracks at all) or you could record just a single mono track and not even use the second capsule.

For the "true" stereo sound, you'll want to pan them both very wide, but this has no direct correlation with great sound. Just use your own ears and decide.
