Default Setting the record straight for the Line 6 pod

I've heard a lot of good things about the Line 6 pod and also a lot of bad things. It really comes down to what you like. But I e-mailed this guy who has created a project known as Chimp Spanner. And he confirmed that he only uses a pod xt and has never even owned an amp before. He also stated that it could take a lot of tweaking to make it sound nice.

So check out the song!! It's fucking awesome.

I Love This Song For Two Reasons:
A) Its is Amazingly Preformed And Recorded
B) It Stands As A testament To Everyone That You Dont Need A Recording Studio That Costs Out The Ass To make Great Music

It's all about vintage tubes, vintage boutique amps, and very expensive guitars. That is what it all boils down to. No cheap imitation modelers will ever sound good enough to use on any credible recording, PERIOD!!!!!

Just kidding! All I use is Line 6 PODxt! Gotta love em....

This is a badass recording. No doubt about it.

I would like to know what he did to make a POD sound like that.

Assuming that this is really a POD, why do 99.999% of the tunes I hear in Recording Reviews that use them sound like shit but so many other tools sound incredible?

I guess I'm saying that the robo elite robo guys have some kind of ability to make everything sound awesome, but how does a dude with okay or even pretty damn good abilities do with it? Don't take my point the wrong way. I'm not saying that everyone should sound amazing regardless of recording ability. I'm simply saying that some gear is damn good and other gear requires a genius to get anything usable out of it.

Either way, if this was done with a POD, it a) sounds nothing like any POD I've ever heard and b) is a DAMN good tone!

It's great, but I can tell it's a pod. I don't know how to quantize that feeling, it just feels like a pod. Sounds pretty damn good, though.

This guy's been doing stuff like this for ages.. I remember years ago on MX (now sputnikmusic or something) he used to lurk about and post his recordings, he's really getting good. Any idea what he used for the drums?

I got the new Pod X3 and I friggin LOVE IT!!!
I think my favs so far are the Bogners, the Tripple Rec from Mesa, and the Higher-gain Marshalls. I play an RG 7 string from Ibanez and the outpus is pretty weak, but with the option to put a tube screamer or boost pedal in front just makes the tone so much fuller.
I'm gonna post some samples of the new PodX3 soon. I'll show you what I'm talking about.

I've been doing this with real amps for 10 years. Don't leave home with out it!

Interesting. I couldn't tell. This recording has "tone". I've never heard a POD recording with tone, so this sounds brand new to me. Also, I've never heard a POD sound "pretty damn good" either so maybe that's why I couldn't tell.

uh no. I would guess Drums from Hell Superior. Couldn't say for sure tho. I know a lot of guys have been using that lately. Could change when this new version comes out. I'd have to hear some good feedback on superior 2.0 before I'd purchase it. If it isn't up to standards, I'd prob try to find a version of DFHS (discontinued but possible) or the first version. I'm sure Superior 2.0 should be awesome!! Damn I wanna know.

From my experience with POD and Toneport modeling software, Line 6 amps, etc. many beginners like lots and lots of distortion and bass when using a tone. I went through a phase like this, and than i realized wow the tones in Toneport suck balls! but i pulled it out when having more experience with tone and realized, you can make some amazingly good tones with line 6 products, you just need to learn a lot about it. Learn to not neccessarily go insane on the heaviness, its a bad mixture with DI distortion. learn to get a more natural sound from your guitar into the tone, and you can get some really great tones from Line 6 products. Its a learning process!
