Default The Right EQ ?????

hey

I got another question and this time it's about EQ.
When i record and "play with the EQ" of my tracks, I use the one they give me on Cubase or on my mixer (which most ppl will say that I shouldnt not do)

Is there anything better? Do i need a plug-in EQ? If anyone know a good plug in (freeware or paid) can you plz tell me about it?

thanks in advance!

People probably don't recommend you using your mixer for EQ because you are committing. There is nothing wrong with committing if you are right. If you aren't 100% sure that you are correct, don't add EQ on the way in. That's the way I've always worked. 95% of the time, no or little EQ is the right move. My most natural mixes (with least work on my part) have sounded the best.

I've not got to play with hardware EQs much, but when I got to play with a Vintech EQ from a Neve 1073 clone, there was obviously something magical in it. It never really sounded harsh or fizzy. Plugin Eqs tend to have a "white noise" type of effect to them.

I noticed that the API eq I played with also had a very musical effect to it.

I'm about to upgrade my EQ plugins to something more like the Focusrite Liquid Mix, but I've been recording for years now with cheaper EQs. I don't hear a drastic difference between the Waves EQs I have and the stock Cubase EQ. I'm sure there is a difference, but I guess I'm just not big on the Waves EQs.
