Default Recording bass both DI and mic'd

Hey everyone i'm recording my band and just tracked the bass. I went DI, but also recorded the cab with a mic spaced about three feet back. How much offset will i need on the miced track so it lines up with the di?

Magnify the waveforms, look at the screen and line up the transients.

And then when the two are in phase you can slide them back together a few milli's. This will allow the kick drum to hit just before the bass and bring a bit more focus to the picture.

How far does sound travel per second? you could determine how many milliseconds to offset per foot. Does anyone know the numbers?

Approximately 1msec for each foot.

Well for 1, the calculations are so minuscule and you will never measure down to the centimeter, and 2, different frequencies travel at different speeds.

So instead of hours of measuring and calculating, just line them up for the acquired phase and comb filtering by ear.

not true, at least not within the audible frequency range through air. That's something BBE made up to sell their junk. Speed of sound will change with temp, humidity, elevation, blah blah, but not frequency.

However, it is true that it's best just to look at the waveform and line it up. You don't know exactly how much latency is involved in all the other gear you have.
