I really want to be an engineer and do sound design. Im a video editor at the moment but I love music and recording. I cant afford right now to do the audio engineer program but I play some instruments and the program looks like something very interesting also you can get a associate degree in music. I think it will be great as a producer or engineer to know that. Im not sure if it's community or city. it's the los angeles valley college what do you think? thanks m |

I like the looks of the curriculum. This is all great stuff to study and learn about. Hopefully you are interested in these subjects and are classes you would want to take anyway. It's very easy to slip into the "trade school" mindset when approaching higher education. Education is the end in itself, not employment.

As a minor footnote, I've taken nearly all of those classes (and many more), have a music degree and I haven't found it to made me any more "marketable".

| This forum and what you teach yourself by trial and error will teach you as much, if not more than a "trade achool" for audio engineering. As a matter of fact, you better jump on Killer home recording while it's cheap. I can guarantee you it bottles up every discussion on this forum, filters out the Whomper style opinions, and teaches how to be a better audio engineer for recordings. just go to school to learn the music theory and business side of the industry. Learn the artform that is recording on your own. btw: Whomper is an inside joke. The Whomper Situation |

The way I see it, life is like a nerdy role playing game. You can buy a copper sword, maybe some leather armor, or maybe an education in recording school. Ultimately, you've still go to go out and slay the slimes and such and there is no real guarantee that those things will be useful. The secret is to put the real time in. Get damn good on your own. Live it, breath it, and sleep it so that you don't even need the education....even if you do augment your fun with formal education. Good luck! Brandon |
