Default Preamp/Graphic EQ suggestions

A buddy of mine gave me a Ghost Tube Preamp TB101 recently and I'm still unsure what the best settings for it are:

Before I had it, I edited tracks this way:

Is there like a 'sweet spot' setting for the preamp? Or is it kind of trial and error to get the best sound out of it? Suggestions?

It's always trial and error and it's trial and error each and every time your recording anything. Nothing ever seems to work twice.

Some preamps sound about 1% better if you crank the output up all the way and turn the input down, but not all preamps have separate inputs and outputs. Other than that, I use the preamp solely for boosting the gain up to an acceptable level. That's it.
