Default Is a Pod Pro a magical elf for big studios?

I like the check out the big studio's websites every once in a while to see design ideas and equipment setups. See if people concentrate on hardware racks or a main center console. And just to see stuff I can't afford for many years.

But I thought it was odd seing the original Line 6 Pod Pro rackmount unit back in 2004 when my by old band recorded at Crystal Clear Studios (average $80-90 hour recording studio), when the XT and XT pro had a bunch more amps and features to it. And it's still there now, even after the upgrade to an SSL4040 board:

A lot of big studios have this in the rack collection. I have this too, but after I got the new PodX3, I haven;t used this for anything more than a practice rig. Does this thing have a magical A/D converter, or a fantastic compressor that I never knew about? Or is it just to fill in 2u spaces?

I'd guess they haven't changed their pliers or WD40 since then either. My point? It doesn't hurt to have an emulator doohickey around whether in the computer or whatever. As far as actually being an important go-to piece....probably not.

I do like the SPDIF outputs. Maybe it's a quick reverb and compression loop for vocalist's heaphone mixes while tracking. I have noticed when using this thing on non-guitar sources with the line-input, it's effects take 2 seconds to set up delay/compression, tap tempo, and good to go.

I actually really have liked this as a bass guitar practice preamp. Goes direct to the board and sounds ok on a smaller PA system.

Hmm, could be used for reverb. It's got a semi-good sounding digital and spring reverb.

I've used my pod many times to do a scratch guitar while the drummer did his tracks. I've never used one on a final but they're a very handy and inexpensive piece to have around.

This is what I expect is it's main purpose.
