Exclamation Need Help Plz About Recording Procedures!

Hi there guys, Can anybody help me? I havesome questions about some stuff related to recording. It might be silly my questions but I just can`t visualize how it works.
I want to record live using about 10 inputs at the same time (like drum mics, guitar, bass etc.)
But the thing is, where should I connect all those cables? Directly on the mixer? If so, where should I connect the output? Directly on the computer? Should I get something else to connect all those outputs directly in the computer? If so, which one? Audio interface? Sound card? `Cause the thing is that I want to have 10 different (separate) tracks on the software, for example: all the drums mics I want them separetly, like, just the snare by itself, then just the kick, so that I can adjust all of them, like the volume etc, and so the guitar and bass..
Hope someone can help me on that!!
Cause basically what I want to do is to record at home, but with quite good quality, and I want to be able to record live and of course, all the instruments separetly... but the thing is that I want to connect all the cables into the computer and look at the program coming on different tracks for each instrument. And also, what would be the perfect combination for that thing that I wanna do? I mean, a mixer, audio interface, what are all the equipments i need for that?
Thank you

The live recording you mentioned sounds a lot like something I did last month. I ended up buying a new interface just so I could do it. Yes, connect into the board, each channel should have its own output (probably TRS). What kind of board is it? The interface I bought is the Tascam us1641 which has 8 xlr and 6 trs inputs. I got a snake that took trs->xlr and hooked into it this way. Worked like a charm. What kind of interface do you have?

Hi thanks for the reply, its not that I have yet, its just that I want to buy one, but Im not sure which one exactly to buy, I was thinking of buying that M-AUDIO PROFIRE 2626, I really liked it, but the thing is, if I connect all the instruments on it, how should I connect the output on the computer, if it has some many output cables, plus, will the softaware recognize all the instruments one by one and separetly? Thanks man

I haven't used that interface, but it looks like it would do the job. Make sure your computer is equipped for firewire, most laptops don't have that these days which is why i went with the us1641(its usb 2.0).
So then you connect it to your computer and then your DAW (Cubase/pro tools/logic/whatever you use) will be able to route each individual output from the mixer into its own track so when its all done you can play Mix Monster to your hearts content. Have you thought about using some room mics? those are essential for bringing a live recording to life.

hmmm interesting! and yeah! im gonna use some room mics for sure!! But I dont know, i am still thinking of buying that firewire iterface thing, and then buy a firewire port so that I can connect to the computer, or perhaps I`ll just go for the USB which is easier and cheaper right? Can you record everything you want just with that us1641? You dont use any mixer, or anything like that? You just plug in the instruments on it and then connect to the computer and thats it? What program (software) do you use? Pro tools? Thanks man

Yeah I thought about going the firewire approach too, but getting a firewire port seemed to me like an unnecessary extra step. I've been happy with my interface so far. With that many channels you can really record just about anything, up to 14 tracks simultaneously. Yes, you just connect it to the computer and it records it straight into Cubase, and I leave all the mixing for afterwards. Most interfaces come with the LE version of cubase, pro tools, or whatever. in my case it was cubase LE 4, and so far i've been happy with it.

Here's the thread where we talked about a lot of this
