I've used the AKG C414 that cooly5a used on his song. The 414 is known for its ability to be universal. It seems to sound really good on whatever is used for. However its alot of dough. I just bought an AKG 220 its seems to be fairly universal so far. Its only a 150 bucks. What people are saying is that alot of mics have a particular Frequency response built in. (which they do) therefore dont sound right on alot of applications. If you want to invest seriously consider a 414c its tried and true. I had a CAD300 for a while and it sounded good for male vocals but crappy on most other things. That's what you want to avoid when spending alot of dough. Hope this helps. Pete |

I have had a lot of trouble finding a mic that i liked and i was shopping for one one day and i came across this CAD GXL2400 Condenser Microphone at AmericanMusical.com in a package deal with a CAD GXL1200 SDCM and it was only $99.00. I still have not found anything to beat its sound. On reviews people compare it to $400 and $500 dollar mics. This mic matched with a good preamp will make any vocal w a r m and full. very clear transparent sound. Strange thing, i went to preview my post and where i type w a r m it was putting **** instead of the word. i tried to edit it a few times and had to space out the letters to get it right. I wonder why it wont display the word ****. |

| I have noticed that some mics bring out the nasal aspect of my voice which I dont like. The Rhode NT-1A and the less expensive Samson CO1 both make "My" voice sound better, but might make someone else sound worse. You could try recording your voice into the same high quality recorder, making sure you maintain the same levels, using different mics, and then just listen to which one you think sounds best.( ask someone else also to get a different opinion).

I have a perception 200 and it is a good mic but the only problem is it is a little bright and produces some harsh sibilance that has to be eq'd out when i use it, but that could just be me because it is a great sounding mic besides that
