(Brandon, I hope you don't mind my mentioning another board here...but since it's already been brought up....anyway, if you delete this I understand). Can someone explain the whole board/competition thing that seems to be going on? (or am I reading too much into this all...?) M. Wagener resigns from ProSoundWeb Yet he's still a moderator at "gearslutz". George Massenburg does the same thing- leave PSW, still seems active at gslutz. People at ProSoundWeb seems to hate gearslutz. Fletcher got banned from there (or was it at recording.org? ...Is there a 'good' side and a 'bad' side to this? Is there something inherently good or trustworthy (or not) about any of these fucking sites? I just don't get it. Obviously I also hang out here for positive reasons - an involved and energized, hands-on host (brandon), smaller number of players, easy to post and feel heard, no one's really trying to prove anything here or be a badass so, i can post in peace... etc. ProSoundWeb seems to have pretty clearly defined players, a number of hi-level pros, mayber fewer players than gearslutz, so people have gotten to know each other...sometimes a lot of attitude, but it can be very funny and fun. gearslutz...am not sure i trust everything i read over there, am sometimes concerned about the skill level of those involved...feel like some of it is sort of mid-level aproach, maybe people sort of starting out, but enthusiastic, i think...(have not been there too much) But honestly, why the hatred and movement between sites ????? WTF? pb |

The sites themselves are nothing but html code and therefor have no personality to them at all. The difference in forums stems directly from those who run them. I must say that I was highly "influenced" as a moderator by the way that Fletcher moderates. He's very blunt, opinionated, and a total asshole at times but all of these support the greater good.... which is to help people make better recordings. I've not been on Gearslutz much. The name itself is a turn off. I'm not really a gear head because frankly, gear has not helped all that much thus far into my recording career. Then again, I can see it making a bigger difference in the next year or so when I take care of bigger fish (my room mainly). Fletcher was not banned from Gearslutz. I can't remember why he was banned from wherever he was banned from. I remember the story being okay, but I was expecting more/worse from Fletcher. I know that J.J. Blair was kicked out of Gearslutz because he said "sonic buckake" (not sure of spelling). While I've been hammered quite a bit for the language used on this forum by the right wing (don't get me wrong, I hate the left too), I can not believe that you would kick out a total bad ass simply based on the fact that he said a naughty word. That's one reason I intentionally made this site a tad naughty. I wanted the focus to be on music and recording. Brandon |

I love those forums but there is so much crap being spewed out. I go to the Marsh for entertainment. REP for fun and of course the Mic Lab and Mastering Forums on there are great. Gearslutz can be cool and is much less hostile to those without a thick skin but there is the same stuff all the time... there are some people there that make wading through all the crap worthwhile. I also tried to listen to as many samples and cuts that are posted on those places as well. It seems that many of the people who seem to constantly post "answers" on those places don't have a fucking clue about sound or engineering or even what a good piece of music is... and yes I said the f*** word... Thank you for allowing me to do that!

I've found that these days I'm too busy mixing records and running my own sites to visit more than one big dog recording forum. I've found everything I've needed thus far in PSW so that's where I go. I'd prefer to find a forum that was much more about recording tactics than gear though. Oh well, when I learn everything (when I'm about 544) I'll toss up a recording tactics site. Brandon |

I know what you mean... I try to spend about an hour over the course of the day internetting and some forum stuff, mostly for software updates, tech stuff but I like to check the audio stuff too. PSW especially the Marsh has some real characters on there and they don't hold back much....

I'll check out Marsh sometime. I think I went there one time. I'm running on overload these days. Brandon |
