Default Mic recording.

I'm trying to use a dyanmic mic to record , but i've got this really high pitched hissing sound.

Is this because of the environment , or is it because of quality?

What sort of materials can i use to record Vocals and an acustic guitar?

You've probably written this is one of your articles.

My pre amp is a part of an all in one focusrite saffire. It's the full version , which is 400 dollars.

The mic is a present from dubai , and my cousin said it would make my voice sound like a fart, but it didn't sound so bad.

I would count out the Saffire just by my own personal take on focusrite build and function quality.

The mic sounds like the culpret.

Is it an unbalanced/high-Z mic?

Also, how are you monitoring this? Through monitors or headphones?

I'm not ready to go that far yet. The Focusrite preamps in the Saffire are obviously not using the same components as their $2,000 preamps.

Now, I'm not sure if you are speaking of noise of a problem in the tone.

Cheap mic preamps can get noisy. That's just the way it is. The mega pro preamps won't get noisy (At least not the preamps I've used).

Dynamic mics are typically pretty low in the output department and therefor you have to use more gain with them. Are you using a lot of gain with this mic?

Is this hiss really a problem? Can you hear it in the song or only when solo'd?

If it's not an issue of noise, we may have to look into other areas. Can you post an mp3 clip?

I've got a feeling that your digi pres may the same pres in this Focusrite box.

Every, non $1,000 preamp I've ever used does this. Both my Vintech 1272 and my Trident S20 have no audible hiss even when cranked.

Luckily, noise isn't linear on these preamps. Meaning, if you need 1-30dB (abitrary guesses here) these preamps do fine. If you need 40dB of gain, the HISS Army invades. (uh huh uh huh....I didn't intend on making this a KISS joke). Anyway, the solution to this is pretty simple. Just add a compressor or (or any other plugin with an output volume) and boost it 10dB.

Your noise will be drastically reduced by not pushing cheap preamps as hard.

Some argue that you should always use the maximum amount of bit depth resolution when tracking, but I've never heard a low signal sound worse than a signal covered in noise.
