Question Is the Melda limiter safe to download?

I've tried to download the free Melda multiband limiter MeldaProduction MMultiBandLimiter, mastering multiband brickwall limiter & loudness maximizer to have a play with, but my computer flashes its warning lights saying that it is not safe to download as the setup file has not been signed by the author...
Is this simply because it is an 'uncommon' file? Is it safe?
    (is ANYTHING safe ?)

    Would appreciate some feedback ta..

i cant guarantee its safety but the certificate/author thing is a windows thing i believe where if it doesnt know the information it likes to tell you. i think i have this disabled on most of my computers. I have discs right from the manufaturer and i have gotten that message. If your antivirus is telling you something thats when i would be concerned.

I have Two paid for Melda VSTs AND the free bundle and there's no problem. They are a reputable contry. If you're worried, download the zip, and then scan it with your anti virus software before opening.

This is a common message with drivers. You have to pay Microsoft a rather sizeable fee to get your software "signed". From what I hear, no real checks are done or anything. You just pay and get your certificate. That's it.

I'm not positive the error you are getting is identical to this one, but I wouldn't put too much faith in a Microsoft warning.....or anything else they say for that matter.

    Thanks for the feedback!
It was a 'smartscreen filter' blocking the installation (part of internet explorer) and I hadn't had that message come up before so thought I'd better get some feedback before proceeding...
Looking forward to testing it out now, I hadn't come across the Melda name before... what are they most/best known for??

No, that's not correct. You have to jump trough so may hoops to get your shit certified by M$ that most smaller companies just cannot do it. I tried to get some of my own companiy's stuff certified last year and gave up halfway through the process. The process and the cost combined are just too prohibitive.

Just to clarify: If you download anything and you get the Windows notice that it is not certified, don't worry about it, the vast majority is not certified, it doesn't mean jack shit. However, as has already been said, when you download, don't select 'run' at the download stage, select 'save as' and then when it has downloaded check it with your antivirus software before opening it. To do this, right click the file and look at the menu. There should be something like 'scan for virus' or 'scan with Kaspersky(or whatever your AV is)'

Thanks aj, yep I always scan everything before taking it over to my recording computer (via malaware and silly McAfee). But I hadn't had that particular message before, hence my caution... appreciate your feedback.

I have Melda's Automiatic Dynamic Eq. It's multiband EQ qhich you can trigger when frequencies hit certain volumes which means you don't always necessarily cut that band out. Wonderful thing.

I also make use of most of their other stuff through the free pack, and I have their ordinary EQ too.

Thanks Shackman.. am only just dipping my toes into the water for multiband EQ... my ears are getting better at picking some annoying freqs but when I move from 'simple' eq to multiband I'm still getting brain freeze I'll have a look at the Melda one though as it sounds interesting.

That multiband dynamic EQ sounds like it would be cool! Darn similar to compression, but really it's more the way i'd like to be able to do it.

THat's why I bought it. It IS, in many ways, compression only of specific frequencies. Has the added advantage that you can make it "listen" to a specific clip, region, intrument track and then apply eq to another to make them sound the same. Hugely useful if you get a long interupotion in takes and find mic positioningleaves you with a slightly different sounding (say) acoustic lead or the like.

I've messed with that type of thing before. It's very similar to a multband compressor, but I liked it it better. But what I had was built in synthedit so it was too buggy to use.
