Default M - Audio Delta 44?

Hey guys,

Have any of you used the Delta 44, I am planning on getting it soon. But before I do I want to know is it a good choice?

I am only looking to record say 2 or 3 tracks simultaneously, Piano, vocal and possibly guitar.

Is the device good quality? and will it last a while?

thanks

P.S. Will it work with windows 7?

does the maker claim it works with win7?
do they provide win7 drivers?

bigger question - does win7 work?
i dont trust the first two releases of anything billyg sells.

quality unknown. read reviews on various web sites and see what others think.

cant predict lifetime. should last long enough if you dont abuse it.

I've had a Delta 66 forever (big brother to the 44) and it's great. I use XP so I have no idea about Windows 7.

Thanks Ethan :P I noticed the Delta 66 has S/PDIF... I don't think I have a use for that. Unless I buy a mixer... Decisions, decisions...

@newkid
Technically this is the third release I'm using, It's been through beta and Release Candidate and I'm now on RTM

Hi

I have a delta 44 and have used it on all my recordings. For the money it is great. I only record at home and don't have the budget some of the guys have on this forum so I did some research on it before and it was perfect for what I wanted.

You can check out my songs at my site below and hear for yourself. The Vocals are through a MXL2003 Condesor Mic into a Behringer Tube Ultragain Mic200 preamp (again great for the price). My guitars are a mix some electric are direct in to the delta and some are via a peavey vypyr amp. All bass tracks are direct into the delta 44.

Hope this helps.

Doesn't that plug into a pci slot?
If so, I would urge you to get an outboard usb device instead.

An explanation as to why he should avoid pci audio devices would be helpful.

I have both the Delta 66 and 44. One of the nice things about the Delta cards is that you can easily expand your in/outs by adding more Delta interfaces.
I received both of them used, and have had no issues at all with them. The 66 was manufactured in 1999!
I also have the Omni i/o. It's a break out box that replaces the one that comes with either the 44 or 66. It sadly is a discontinued product, but if you can find a used one, and they usually go cheap if available, get it. It's really nice. 2 preamps with pads, 2 headphone outs,FX inserts,4 direct outs, monitor outs with volume control...
I'm not sure about Windows 7 compatibility, but M-Audio are usually pretty good with driver updates. Although I use a rolled back driver that I think is nicer, and has a couple of extra features that the newer drivers have left out for some reason?
side note> btw Brandon thanks for the site updates. I've been away for a while, and through 7 levels of computer Hell. It's nice to come back and easily edit posts and spell check is working again!!!

pci card is inside the computer
PITA to install

not shielded
subject to more electric noise pickup even if shielded

harder to move to another pc for testing or real use

cant put on laptop for portable use

why not just get an external usb interface?
