Default Live vocals help

Hey Everyone!
I don't know if this is the right place to post this but it seemed sort of logical. Our band is having a problem with vocals (primarily backing vocals). Our mics run through the mixer (Berhinger PMP 5000) as well as the instruments then run out though a main channel and a monitoring channel. Everything works great with this setup except our lead vocalist overpowers the backing vocals making it difficult to hear if we are off key through our monitors. We think this problem can be solved by using different monitor mixes for each musician. This way the keyboard player can hear his vocals primarily through his monitor, same with the bass etc... while not losing out on the overall mix. Perhaps just turn each mic up for that particular monitor. I apologize in advance to not knowing a lot about this, but I am the drummer and only know how to keep time (sort of) We don't as yet have a sound-man and adjust live onstage as needed but of course that is tricky during a show. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Default Re: Live vocals help

Okay, so bass dude, for example, can't hear himself when he's singing harmonies. The only real solution is to turn up bass dude in his monitors but not in everyone elses.

The band I often run sound for has about 16,000 watts of power. We have two different monitor mixes and on mix going to in-ears (for the drummer). We pretty much keep the lead vocals cranked in all monitors, but turn down the backing vocals quite a bit in the main mix.

I'd be careful switching from 1 monitor mix to 4 monitor mixes. It complicates things quite a bit and may even require some gear upgrades. Starting out with 2 monitor mixes may be a more logical first step.
