Default linux computer recording?

i have checked out some of the stuff that is out there on the web and is getting built. and it would seem that in a few years the better DAW software will all be free! some people here already use Audacity, i have seen that Ardour is now considered stable while a few other black horses are up and coming also... any body else looking at linux yet?

I've read a little on this but probably won't switch from Vegas. I get set in my ways from time to time.

I'm sure the price of the open source stuff will draw a large fanbase to make it work.

My only question about the Linux thing is.... who uses it?

I don't mean to suggest that no one is using it. I just mean the percentage of people that are using Linux is so small that I wonder if it will get enough support. In my situation, I'm way too busy recording music to learn how to use a new operating system and software.

Would they be better off creating a DAW for Windows in open source?

What do you think? I'm not criticizing. Just trying to learn something.

well i use linux and i think its WAY more stable than Windows any day of the week.... right now i use ubuntu linux as my OS on my laptop and i will say that the learning curve was less than the one i had when i moved to Mac so it was very slight...

I don't deny the stability thing with Linux. To be honest, I've had extremely little troubles with my Windows XP / Vegas rig.
