I agree with you 100%. You really don't realize how much you suck until you record yourself, and no where is that more evident than in the tuning. I've scrapped so many recordings because my guitar was badly out of tune. But the thing is, I thought it was perfect, until I actually heard it.

get a peterson (or Conn!) strobe tuner and learn how to set your intonation...

It's just nonsense when I see someone have tens of thousands of dollars in amps and guitars and their tuner is one of these $25 plastic toys...
