The amount of hours i have spent trying to get a good recorded metal guitar tone that I like is incalculatable. The gear I'm using is, 32 channel eq, compressor, pod, ART preamp, dmx 6fire soundcard and cubase on pc. The guitars I'm using are, Dean Razorback, BC Rich Mockingbird ST, Gibson LP and a Jackson DK2.
As well as this I have at my disposal a Boss GT3, a Boss GT8, a Guyatone Metal Monster(Tube distortion pedal), a Marshall BiChorus 150w head, SM57's 58's and Marshall 1960 A&B 4x12's. How the hell can I cannot get a USABLE sound, apart from me being crap at this. |

Yeah i now it's not easy creating a good metal tone..
I did month's to create my first, sometimes you need not many equipment to do it, i self record with podx3 via usb monitoring is done by the 2 outputs that are connected with the emu0202usb from creative, hooked there goes a cable (2cinch) to my hifi.. that's it!!! Maybe you can describe what type of metal sound you are looking for? My sound's on soundclick where described like meshuggah type and many more, altough i don't like that band much but some of their song's are good.. i'm more influenced by strapping young lad, living color and other band's from the net!!! let me now something ![]() glenn |

I amn not sure what you are saying. If you could post something to hear maybe I could see what I could do. It sounds like you have way more than enough equipment. I know on distortion sometimes less is more. I believe in compression only for live guitar. basically the 32 band eq.... you should set it at flat everything to zero to start. for more meat go around 100hz up to 5oohz for more edge from 2 k up to 6 k be careful most guitars don't need to add this. maybe just a touch of 4 or 5 k. have someone play your guitar as you set this. Take a break after 15 minutes and listen to someone elses sound you might like to sound close to. then go back again and work on your sound some more. After about 3 days to 2 weeks you should have an acceptable Metal sound. As you play remember you are going deaf. Don't change you sound. use freash ears for setting eq and compression. Now record yourself. Take a break and then go back and listen to the recording.
Private message this guy and see if he may have some suggestions I think he has a pretty good metal sound. http://forum.recordingreview.com/pri...o=newpm&u=9420

This is one of the best online resources I've ever found for recording heavy guitars. It's a long read but definitely worth it.
Slipperman's Recording Distorted Guitars From Hell Hope it helps. |
