That won't work. It'll just sound rolled-off and lousy. Sorry for the mocking...not really!

I'm still using a pre-crippled Groove Mechanic stand-alone app for '98. I happened to try the built-in on my $20 Magix v12 the other day and it didn't do too bad, but I didn't actually test it on tape.

Don't worry. If you can't poke fun at the naive, who CAN you poke fun at?
My quest continues....

That's funny. It used to be (showing my age) guys would bring their horrible-sounding NADY wireless units for their guitar into the studio because "it was part of their 'sound'".

Let's back up a minute and at least try on the guise of helpfulness. What kind of tape are we talking about: format, make, total duration, how long ago recorded, program material, etc. and what sort of equipment are you using to retrieve and record the material?

Ok, It's a TDK IEC Type 1 D90 from 1995. There's just shy of the full 90 mins on there. It's an old practice tape of a band. The noise isn't horrendous but noticable.
I'm using my Sony tapedeck (Around 13 years old) to an Audiophile USB soundcard. Record using Cubase VST.....?

OK. So as not to make too much out of this. Grab a good cassette deck with Dolby C. Engage the NR and record the result. A little EQ for taste and pull out the >10k. Call it a day after that.

Actually, I often dub without dolby - depending how the playback tracks. GB is right that often you shouldn't make so much of the process - unless you want to make a challenge out of it. There was a time I rigged up a Blaupunkt car deck just for it's hiss (noise reduction on radio, too - I think) reduction on the D and AD tapes.
