Yeah This has been a real problem for me as of late too. I have resorted to doing my own foley. It is more expensive for the client but the results are worth it.

Sometimes I can't see the forest for the tree's. I either need it free from the net or do it myself. Sheesh. $2.99/sample is well worth it if they are good. They are not exclusive but most of the time who cares.

productiontrax.com is good for actual automobile/truck model sound effects (i.e. F-150 starting, accelerating, revving,etc.)

Used CD stores in the $1.99 junk bin. Or used book stores that also sell cd's (Half Price Books in the DFW, TX area) in the clearance section with the 30 boy band albums, kids books on cd, and record label compilations. I actually found a DVD of 7 gigs worth of drum loops, samples, and effects for $3 in that bin.

I got lots of f/x rather cheap on disk years ago.
Many should be available used now even cheaper.

The internet is good, but it is not always the answer; and even if it is *an* answer it is not always the best answer.
