Default Help with my recording setup

hi, my band has currently hit a rough patch with recording guitar. I would like to tell you guys my setup and hear what you guys think i should take as a next step. I own Live and a Firebox, and my guitarist has a Peavey amp and a M-audio Nova Condensor mic. We have tried DI and micing his amp with the condensor mic, but both of the recording we have gotten haven't been anywhere near good. Would you recommend a different way to record, or buy a dynamic mic, or use certain affects. Or if anyone has any other ideas please let me know. thx

i like an sm57 on my peavy amp. placement makes a big difference. try a couple different mics in different spots on the amp. only you know what sound you want. experiment, find it.

I haven't mic'ed a guitar cab with anything except an SM57 or an Audix I-5 for years. They can take SPL like nothing else. With a lot of condensers (idk about yours), you're either overwhelimg the mic with volume, or you're playing quiet which generally doesn't help your guitar tone..
