Default Help!!!!!

How would you record a band live with only 2 mics? I have a Samson large condensor mic and a Seinheiser E609. Where would I do mic placements? They are a 3 piece band (guitar/vox, bass, drums), and I would be recording them at there practice studio. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

THanks!

Adam.

Well, if I had to record a live band (I'm assuming this is a rock / pop / country / metal kind of thing) then it's gonna turn out about like an Elvis recording. You can decide if this is good or bad.

If it were me, I'd toss the dynamic on the singer and then place the condenser in the room where all instruments are most balanced. In a good room with a really good band you could get some get sounds like this. However, once it's recorded, there is very little you can do with it so you had better get the blend perfect from the start. I'd start by finding the placement where the drums sound good and then experiment to see where the guitar and bass amps should be placed.

As limiting as you may think this is you are going to learn A TON about audio engineering by doing this....unless you half ass it.
