The big difference I can tell is flat out Attitude.
Reality=Attitude, DI=Sterility.
Your not going to get that room filling thunder of a 5150 or a Marshall
stack with DI, period.

I don't know if I would go that far, but for "loud screaming guitar" you need the dynamics of that amp and speaker. This is a oscillator instrument when you get into high levels. There is none of that with a SIM.

[]You obviously haven't recorded Guitar Rig 2 under the right conditions...

When I crank my NS10's, I get all kinds of weird and wonderful stuff going down!

Yeah, what you said here doesn't actually make any sense. If you are talking about playing the guitar (not recording) then you have a point, but if you are talking about recording then your microphone doesn't care how much the air in your room is moving around, all it cares about is how the air in the half inch radius around your capsule is moving.

Whether you recorded with a DI or a micrphone, it's still moving the same air when you play it back through monitors.

Here's a sample of oscillations that you can really get out of software. There all sorts of examples in my experience. How can a sample re-enforce it's self. I've never had these rigs, but the ones I've seen are a least three double whoppers and usually six.

You're going to have to explain what you mean by oscillations, because I'm not sure what I just listened to there. You mean feedback?

Yes the air waves are playing the strings. The artist is doing the wriggle wrist vibrato, but the sustain can go on all day.

ah, I see. That's not really an issue of hardware vs software, it's an issue of how big your speakers are. If I plug guitar rig into a set of 15" jbl's, I can get that same feedback.
