Hey guys, Working on a new project and everything is going great! I have one minor issue ... I have pro sounding drums already but having a little bit of trouble on guitars and have always kind of had this issue ever since i started recording. Like i said i can get pro drum sounds but when it comes to distorted guitars that's the issue. Clean guitars come out great and i can EQ them and throw some plug ins on them and they sound fantastic ... As far as Distorted or Gained guitars thats the issue .. they seem harsh .. no matter the tone, or the plugins i use the guitars always come otu harsh sounding and sound like they were recorded in at home ... I use condensers on just about everything, have also tried a shure sm57 and the tone comes out good but when it comes to mixing it just doesnt sound as good as the drums and others in the mix. on Pro recordings it seems there is something they do to even the heaviest distorted guitar that makes it clean in the mix. I used all sorts of compressor plugins, ozone4 and others and cant get a great guitar sound. Is it the Mic or can anyone recommend something i am doing wrong? Here are the things i have tried. The tone is great right from the amp, it sounds perfect in the room. Different mics, MXL condensers, shure sm57 Different Mic positions compressors, eqs, ozone4 close micing, far micing I know there is a number of things that probably contribute to multimillion dollar studios but how do the pros get that crisp (distorted tone) that doesnt sound harsh? I know others get great guitar sounds from home studios. Is there a trick to guitar recording that i dint know about? Is it the Mic or the plug in i use? |
