Groove Tubes "Brick"
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Groove Tubes Brick as a studio microphone preamp? Just looking for a step up from our Presonus "Tubepre," need a little more headroom so we don't get distortion as easily. Anyway, thoughts? Comments?
Oh, and what is up with the only output being XLR?

Re: Groove Tubes "Brick"
The big boys I speak with seam to give it a pretty decent rating, but most push for the RNP preamp. I've never tried either, though.

Re: Groove Tubes "Brick"
What about the whole only XLR out thing? That doesn't flow too great with our whole MOTU setup, unless we put it infront of the 2 built in pres...Thanks for the preap suggestion though, they look sexy and I'll read up about em.

Re: Groove Tubes "Brick"
Almost every pro preamp I've dealt with is XLR out only. Just buy a cable that goes from XLR out to 1/4".

Re: Groove Tubes "Brick"
I have the GT Brick and i love it! Of course I am new to recording and this is my first pre-amp so I really have nothing to compare it with. I wish it had 2 channels though. I'm thinking of getting a EH 12AY7 as a second pre-amp. I heard alot of good feedback on those too.

Hey Daveg62,
I'm glad you are liking yoru GT Brick. What qualities does it have that make you "love it"? In other words, why do you like it?

Re: Groove Tubes "Brick"
Well, like I said, I am sort of new to home recording and I don't have anything to personally compare it to. I went with it after doing alot of research on various forums such as this one. I can tell you the thing is built like a tank. No cheap components on this one. It sounds very nice with my Takamine acoustic miked up with a SP B1 or ADK Vienna (also the only two mics I own so far.) I haven't tried it on any vocals yet, but one of the reasons I went with this pre-amp was because it's supposed to be good on guitars and vocals.Originally Posted by brandondrury
