Default Fairchild 660 compressor

Hi everyone, I'm new to the board. I have a question for you guys. Have any of you used one of the Fairchild 660 or 670 compressor plugins? If so, do these really sound close to the real deal? They are quite pricey but a whole lot less than the real deal. Thanks in advance!!!

Keith

Have you used a real deal, Fairchild? Just curious.

I've encountered other home recorders who have never even heard a Distressor or 1176 in real life who really obsess about whether a plugin compares to a $20k hardware unit. For the average home recorder, it's irrelevant whether an emulation is "accurate". There is a bigger question. Does this tool make it easier to make exciting music?

With that said, I've never played with a real Fairchild or a simulation.

No, I have never used a real one. But love all the records made using this compressor, very smooth but a beast that weighs about 60 pounds and has around 20 tubes in it. I know there are only a few studios in the world that have these, Abbey Road being one. I have never had much luck with the compressors that come with recording software. Never could get the freebie "Classic Compressor" to load in my plugins. BTW. Very cool website!!!!

Well, I'd bet if you dug a bit you'd find some bad recordings made with a Fairchild. I guess I'm a little leary about getting too excited about any one tool.

It was a general term, I'm sure there are bad recordings with a Fairchild as well as any recording equipment and devices, I guess its all in who is using it.
