I love my Audix D6. It is really attacky, so unlike other mics that may sound better deep within the kick, you need it just inside the kick to get maximum balance of click and boom. It's awesome for my rock applications, but if metal is your thing, I don't think you can beat this mic.

Have you checked out the Shure Beta 91??? Brandon uses that exclusively as his kick and I really have like the results.
