Default Do I need an external Word Clock Master?

I'm wanting to use 4 Behringer ADA800's to record to my PC. Do I need to have an external Word Clock Master in order to get these to sync up correctly. Everything I have read says you only need them for use with different brands of A to D converters to get their bitrates to sync/calibrate with each other. In theory wouldn't the rates be the same if I am using all of the same make an model to capture? Any suggestions/comments/info would be greatly appreciated.

You don;t require one. You only need to set the Behringer as the master and your interface as the slave. That way the Behringer feeds the sync as it converts. If you have ckicks and jitters, and latency doesn't fix the issue, then the Behringer is just a bad clock and you can get an external clock from ART from about $130.

That's not exactly accurate. Even when using 4 of the same box, you need to have who is the boss. He's the master and everyone else does what they are told. Otherwise everyone starts bumping into each other resulting in clicks and pops.

This boss CAN be an outside device, but certainly doesn't have to be.
