Hi MetalDave,

For what it's worth, I have a book "Recording Techniques for small studios" written by David Mellor. I would assume this is the same person. The book was written about 10 years ago.

I've gleened a lot of info from his book, it's very well written and covers mic placement, effects, mixing techniques etc... IMO he knows his stuff.

The book was published in association with Sound On Sound magazine, which is a well respected UK muso mag. - If that helps.

Thanks stevo I was looking into getting the book also. He is now doing an online course. I just think maybe it would be worth $300.00 to upgrade the most important part of my recording gear... Me. Even if I only learn a couple of things.

He has excellent credentials. It appears to be a teach yourself kind of approach, but looks like you get the opportunity to ask for opinions if you want to. I'm thinking about doing this too.

Having just completed a $1200 diploma in Media Composition, I'm looking at this and thinking $300 is a bargain for what they go through. I'm going to take the free tour to see what's what. It's a little annoying that you can't actually email them (they refer you to the form on their ask a question page, but the form doesn't exist). I'd like to know how genre specific it is before I sign up. It's important that sections much of it covers orchestral mixing as well as rock. I'll see what happens after taking the free tour.

hey i did the free course about 6 or 7 months ago, and i actually learned a few stuff but nothing major!

I have the free course on my pc so i can email it to you if you like? then you don't have to wait for a weekly email!

Yeah I have responded to his emails and got no responce at all. I did respond a second time because when you sign up for the free tour he sends an awful lot of emails and I asked him to stop for abour 6 weeks when I will have the cash to take his course. I haven't gotten a single email from him since. I assume he reads them or someone does...

nah its probably bots, they only send mail and not read any replies, i think if you enroll in the course you get specific contact details, otherwise a lot of people that's not part of the course will email him.

do you want the free course? because i can give i to you in one shot! otherwise you will have to wait a week for a part of the course.

I already have the free course. Thanks though. I assume the emails stopped because some human being was reading my replies. I didn't know there were bots that know how to read?! Maybe?
