Hello everyone,
I just got my interface, software, and drum mics working, and I wanted to post a short clip for constructive criticism because I am new to this and want to learn more about it. Please let me know if it sounds unbalanced or anything. I have not done any panning, EQing or compression. I have the mics about 1" off the drum heads, the bass drum mic about halfway inside the drumhead via the hole, and the overheads about 5' high in a line that cuts the set diagonally through the snare and 2nd tom. I couldn't find a way to get an mp3 so all I have to wma. https://www.yousendit.com/download/T...bWdCSWZIRGc9PQ My setup is: Cubase 4 Presonus firepod INterface Digital Reference DR-7 drum mics 4 pc Tama Rockstar drumset, 10", 12", 14" toms with 24" bass 5 1/2 x 14" maple Pork Pie snare drum Zildjian Custom A 16" crash and ride 20" 14" Zildjian new beat hi-hats Thank you in advance, Sean |

Thank you so far.
The toms are miked separate, I have 7 total: 1 snare, 1 bass drum, 3 toms, and 2 overheads. By boost the bass drum, do you mean the increase the input level on the interface? or increase the volume in the program? Would there be a difference? |

It really depends on the other tracks and what kind of music you are attempting to do. This could work well for certain 70s music where the snare was tucked into the track and didn't pop out.
If these were my tracks (and we are doing music that requires a more modern sound) I'd need the drummer to the snare more aggressively and back off considerably on the hi hats. These are problems that can not be fixed with simple manipulation of the faders / tracks other than using sample replacement (which takes the drummer out of the equation). The overall tone seems good to me. We'll have to see how it sits in a song. Quote:
