Default Which comes First EQ or Comp

Hi guys

I was wondering if anyone could spare me some advise? Iv just started recording my music and am trying to figure if I EQ or Compression comes first?

Either!.. or both!

there are no rules.. EQ before compression is useful if you don't want the compressor working on the entire audio spectrum.. I usually use an EQ with high and lo pass filters to cut out all unnecessary information before compression.. EQ AFTER compression is often used during the mixdown, to help fit instruments into the mix.

Just out of curiosity, why can't you figure this one out on your own? I used double smiley faces just in case you didn't take that in a positive manner. However, it's a serious question and I'd like an answer for it. Hint: There is no "proper" way.

Just remember that if you cut something out using EQ and then compress the track... that stuff you cut out is going to be raised back up a little.
