Default Audio technica 4040

Has anyone used these for drum overheads?

The AT4050 works really well as an overhead, but I can't say much about the AT4040 as I've never used it.

Does anyone have any experience with the Audio Technica 4040 as a voiceover mic??
I'm thinking of using it as my first mic for voiceovers.

I've never used it, but I'm very confident that it would serve you well as an all purpose voice over microphone. Obviously, for max results the mic needs to be matched to your voice.

I've used the AT4040's as drum overheads. Although I would have preferred two small diaphragm condenser mics (the studio is working on a tight budget and we needed a good workhorse condenser for vocals at the time). I think they worked out pretty well.

Check out my attachments for a sample. Drums were recorded in a basement studio with AT4040 as overheads using the recorderman method.

It works well. Its proximity effect may be a little too pronounced if you're right up on it so back away a few inches. And get a pop screen!

Thanks for the info. After I posted the question I ended up going with the Shure KSM 27. I can work right up on it about 2-3 inches and have no pop problems even without the pop screen installed.

They sound very good to me! I may need to look into picking me up a pair. I've always liked the Audio Technica stuff.

These mice are quite a bit more on the bright side than the 4033 and 4050. I'd say the KSM 27 was the wise choice out of the two.

Thanks for the info. The Shure KSM 27 sounds real nice to me and, so far, I'm happy that I went with it.
