Yeah, I changed Getting Started to "Solve Technical Issues" so I guess I need to do some revising. Just post in Getting Started style questions in Audio Engineering and I'll move them if necessary.

Brandon, I notice the best piece of out board gear you kept referring to was time lol. This is so true. Careful planning and taking your time with the source, tracking and mixing where the song demands.

dear brandon, i decided to reply you here as well, as i think that my issue should be discussed here.

i'm mixing club tracks which after rendering should keep their "pumping beats and basses, nice synths and all the others". i'm mixing them in ableton and since they are original and already mastered i do not apply too much eq, i just crossfade some parts of them ( like 1st track ending with the 2nd's beggining ).

my mixes sound great in ableton, but once renedered too wav they loose a lot of quality. after i export .wav to mp3 using soundforge the mix becomes worst.

can you give me a starting point ? maybe i'm doing things wrong straight from the beggining. so my tracks sound great in ableton. what next ?

for example i know a dj who renders his mixes as mp3's to 128 kbps. and everything sounds very great, every sound is like somehow isolated from the others, it's very clear, rich and fat.

i would apreciate an advice, thanks!

what do you mean by 'drums'?

as in tom, snare, hat, etc etc?

are you talking about live drums or programmed?

Hi Brandon: Interesting to read that you have a Delta 1010.
I used a Delta 1010LT PCI card in my Mac G5 Dual 2Ghz PPC for about five years. In Feb. this year it developed a strange hiss or noise much like white noise but more sinister. Cut my losses and chucked it, replaced it with an M-Audio ProFire 2626. What a brilliant combination with Logic Pro 7.2.3.
Had heard that PCI card interfaces get a hard time, power supply wise, as they are on all the time even when not using them.
Thought that may be interesting for other PCI card users and some thing to watch for.
Don't get me wrong, the Delta 1010 was great, just wanted to go external Firewire and use it on another machine, Mac of course.
Cheers.
