am i the only one who uses acid pro to mix? i use cubase to record drums then dump them into acid pro 4.0 and record everything else in acid pro. its so easy for me to use it. is there a reason not many use it? it seems to work great for me but im not by any means a pro so......

I don't think it has automatic delay compensation, does it?

I track into Pro Tools LE but mix in Cubase SX3 because of the automatic delay compensation, which allows me to use outboard gear

I used to use Vegas, which is fairly similar to ACID but with less looping and more multitracking features.

You can read all about how I feel about switching in my article:
The Problem With Simple Recording Software

I liked your article Brandon.......but I think Cubase is a little more advanced than the older (like 8 years) version of Vegas. Not saying your not right......it was your time to find a newer product to fit your needs. (and your examples support that)

I use ACID alot...... not as much for recording, but for mixing, main song building/production and such. I have Pro 4.0......but would love to step to version 6 in the future get much better MIDI and now full multitracking. I multitrack currently in Vegas 4.....and still do lots of DVD editing in Vegas 4 also. I use Sound Forge 7 for anything that is just 2 channel.

I have played with Ableton Live some.......but the learning curve was to head scratching.....I don't even have it installed right now.

I think it is all what you get used to and what fits your needs....... My needs are certainly different than Brandon or any of you out there. I want to step up on software....but the cash is just not there at the moment.

Use what you feel good using, and what gives you the best final product to your liking........

It definitely needs to be said that there are updates to all these programs. Comparing Vegas 3.0c with Cubase SX3 isn't exactly a fair fight... of course, it wasn't meant to be a fight. It was a comparison between a program considered "simple" vs a program that many feel is "not simple". I wanted to illustrated that "simple" and "limited" go hand in hand.

Of course, the interesting point of the article is the fact that I was content with Vegas 3.0c for years and years with only a few headaches (until my needs changed).

A lot of guys seam to love Ableton Live. I fired up a demo once and got the feeling that I was in a new dimension where my previous knowledge was useless. I then gave up after 2 minutes.

Let us know how it goes, Snoopy. I have some interest in the program and I'm sure I'll be getting 1 billion question in the next couple years about it.
