Default annoying noise

If you can help at all ,It would be a big relief...I have a cheap ass presonus firebox interface that is noisy.I was wonder if this is stanard for these things or is my firewire cable picking up this hiss (do not know if that is even possible) I have the firebox and my computer plugged into a monster pro power center ,so it should be receiving clean power, but the provided sound clip tells another story.I am thinking it is partly the fans in the computer but the noise is evident even when no mic. , instrument,or speaker out cables are inserted.I tried gating, removing d.c. offsetting, nothing works. should I just bash this fucking thing into oblivion and upgrade or is there something I overlooked

Are you recording at 96k or 44k. If yr at 96 try 44. If its noise being generated by the computer it could actually be being multiplied by the higher sample rate. Ive had it happen with a firepod.

44.1 ...I am at a loss.At first I was sure it was the radioshack mic's self noise or comp fan, then after unplugging everything and even turning the preamps, headphones, and mains down it was still there...I became furious.Maybe I should just except it, but I cannot.I do alot of intentional wrongdoings , though this is something I just cannot put up with. How did you handle the firepod?

My first thought was your levels are set wrong but you say you get noise with everything turned down.

Check with headphones. If you hear the noise through the headphone jack with all the levels turned down then you have a bad unit. Fireboxes are not that cheap and they should not have noise. Contact Presonus.

um, you might want to triple check that you aren't accidentally recording from another source (ie built in microphone).
