    3rd Party Shockmount for AT4033, AT4040, and AT4050

    Hey dudes/chicks,

I'm curious if there is a good shockmount for the AT series of Audio Technica mics made by a 3rd party. The shockmount issue is the main reason I ditched my AT4050 and AT4040 although both are very usable mics.

Someone posted on GearWhores that this would work:

    Ref: at4040 shock mount - Gearslutz.com

    There's nothing like paying $120 for a shockmount for a $220 mic.

My Gefell M930s don't even have a shockmount.

Maybe I should have reworded this. I'm looking for a way to mount these to a mic stand inexpensively and don't really care much about the shock absorption. Any ideas?

Yeah that bites the big one! Not worth it unless you can find a used one. I can't think of much else that would work on that mic design, without being too unstable.

    2 words... Duct Tape

Nothing says "Professional Studio" like duct taping your mic to the stand. I think I learned that on "Pensado's Place" or something.

I have a couple of these guys things. Bought 'em like ten years ago. Always been great.

I bought one for my 4033 and it worked, it was tight as hell but I got it in there and it worked then.

It had two clips that you press to open and was pretty cheap.

I'll have to take a look at it and see if I can figure out what it's called and where I got it.

It was on ebay and I bought it from the guys who sell broadcast mic booms.
I never finish a mix, just abandon it.

I've just discovered (to my great delight) that the AT4040 fits very comfortably into the Rode NT1a shockmount

Wow - it has a very different sound to the Rode..

    Thanks heaps Brandon!!!!

Great! The AT4040 is dramatically more neutral, if memory serves. I've not used it in a while, but I remember it being an outstanding all-purpose microphone without a strong opinion either way.

Yep, it seems REALLY smooth. Does a bland job on my volatile vocals but excellent on other various 'real' instruments I've been playing with. Twill come in very handy indeed (beam beam)

"Bland" is probably a hair more bold that I'd go, but I definitely understand your point. It's a safe mic that works on most things and that's exactly why I almost never used it. I'm lucky enough to have a bold mic for just about everything these days.

I use mine for voiceovers, so I think it works rather well for that application. I use it for vocals sometimes too, when I'm in a hurry or just goofing around.
