Talking Third Pro-Tools Recording

This is my third attempt at recording with Pro Tools .

However I have to re-do three of them and that leaves two hundred more to go.

Here it is Bash away.

More snare. What are the guitars doing in the next room? Is that how they do it in Nashville these days? If you're going to double the vocals, they have to be together and in tune; that was a bit of a mess. Nice drums. Don't love the song. The absense of guitars makes the vocal seem awfully loud, but if you put the guitars back, it sounds like it'd be right on the money, level-wise.

Thanks for the reply garageband.
The snare wasn't miked right so the volume can't be turned up. Is there a remedy to that problem? I don't know?
I didn't record guitars through the whole song only in the intro and the end.
I did record a steel guitar but it didn't come out very good so I muted it.
The pianos were also nasty so I muted them along with the attempt at strings.
I wanted this song more upbeat but it didn't work out that way this time. I'll just have to re-do-it. I will most likely re-do everything many times until I learn to use these new devices.

On the snare problem, if it's not there you're not going to make it magically appear: esp. if you has the rest of the drums sounding that good. It'll just wreck it all if you try.

What about the steel guitar was bad? On a broader note (use the Tommy Chong voice here), "Don't be so down on your sounds, man." When you start mixing stuff, you'd be surprised how "ewww, I don't know..." becomes "hmmm, not so bad".

Swing the bat with more confidence. You've got to believe you're going to hit the ball, not be convinced, walking up to the plate, that you're going to strike out. Also, get some pitch correction software; all the cool kids are doing it. It'll really help straighten out your PSG, as well.

Not sure if you can do anything about the snare, but have you tried seeing if you can use and EQ to seriously boost the frequency of the snare hit, then gate the hell out of the track until all you get is the attack of the snare, then feed that channel into something that triggers a snare sample? You might also thing about trying this for the Kick drum as well and add a little of both. Just a thought...

And I second the Auto-Tune for the vocals . Also maybe bring the background vocals down a bit overall.

Hope this helps.

Jason
