Default Something to lose

This is a "bigger" arrangement than I usually record but it seemed like the tune needed it . I am curious about whether it is just my inexpensive monitors or whether this seems to be distorting . Also , I have a helluva time getting my tele to sound "real" when I'm recording direct . This is a Bad Monkey pedal direct to the sound card . Does anyone have any suggestions as a better option?
Thank you very much

I like the song. Good contemporary country feel. The arrangement is nice. I don't hear any distortion, but through my cheap monitors, it seems just a little
muddy on the low end. I also have the problem getting a good guitar sound. Sometimes I play through my old vibrolux with a sm57, and it sounds pretty good.

Thru my headphones, sounds good to me. A bit hotter than your previous posts but very clear and good frequency spread. Guitar sounds good to me, although mine tended to sound a bit ****er thru my Fender Twin Reverb. The tubes, in my opinion, added a boost of the lower freqs and a slight rolloff of the uppers. Have you tried using the JB Ferox VST plugin? It adds that same feeling.

I'm relieved to hear that this mix doesn't seem to distort anywhere but on my monitors . I haven't heard of the JB FEROX plugin but I will try to check it out . Its exactly that tube fatness I am missing , I have always felt . Thanks for the heads up on that and for the helpful comments

great recording. amazing vocal production...albeit maybe a little too much reverb.

the only thing i see-that tamborine hit on the snare is taking away more than it's adding. it sounds artificial. if it is, you could always record a real one to see if it's better. if not, i would remove it...it's making it a little "karaoke backing track"..if that makes any sense.

otherwise, good job.

This is what I love about this site . You guys have such great ears you even know when a tambourine is fake ...and you are dead right on this one .

Thanks for the great feedback on the track SOMETHING TO LOSE ...I always appreciate fresh ears disecting my stuff . By the way the vocals are a 57 with the free MDA compressor plugin . I record in my dining room and just tweak and tweak until it sounds as close to the Big Boys as I can get . I've been more than happy with the sound I'm getting for demos like this .

thanks

Hello Roy , I have a logitech 5.1 surround system on my computer and the quality of your song sounds excellent hear on my end , The only thing i would say is the overall bass sound is borderline over the edge , now im not saying that it is overdistorting but that may be what you may be hearing on cheaper monitors , i would re EQ and bring the overall bass down a hair !...You don,t have to go grazy on this one because your song is already near that perfect mix , it,s sounds great and the song great , I know already i,ll be waking up in the morning with that song in my head ! haha great recording job really nice work love it!

Gees thanks a lot for the listen and the critique. You know I think you have a point about the bass. I've been trying to define it more by boosting the volume on it ....I think this may be exactly why I'm hearing the slight distortion and as you suggest , it may just need some eq tweaking .....

Sure appreciate you taking the time to weigh in on this for me ...thanks again
