Clever song. The first thing I would do to improve this recording is to put some good drums on it.

Thank you for the feedback. That is a real challenge for me as I am not a drummer and I have difficulty creating such from a keyboard. I can do simple beats (such as appears on the track) but nothing complicated. What do you suggest.

I think the simple beat is appropriate for the type of ballad it is...

Very Nice. I'd suggest adding a slide guitar as a background accompaniment. Think it would compliment your vocal and take some attention away from the basic drums. Plus, I like slide guitar; I do it with a steel or medicine bottle on my old Gretsch.

The drum part doesn't have to be that different from what you have, just better, more real sounds and more human sounding. It would make a huge difference in the overall sound. We make a lot of backing tracks for singer songwriters and drums is the thing we spend the most time on because they have such a big impact.

I have the same issues with drums. I actually played them for a few years (back in the 60 & early 70's - I'M OLD). I have some drum stuff (software and some built-in to Logic and I do have a midi keyboard but trying to play drums on a keyboard isn't a pleasant experience to say the least (try rolls, etc) - tried using all different loops, prerecorded stuff, etc - but none of it sounds right... drums are hard. Bass lines are easy on a keyboard.

I'd like to try out a simple lead and maybe post it back - it'll be crude cause I don't have the original tracks - just an MP3 (with no stanzas open for lead) but I'll try some stuff and send it back up here 'eh! I'm old but have played METAL, BLUES and CLASSIC ROCK for years - country might be fun to jam with - Is that OK with you? I think simple is best - nothing fancy - just KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID

Lemme know if you're into me JAMMIN' with yer song dude.
