Most of the things I'm hearing are arrangement, production, and performance issues. I don't know if you have the reel to reel multi-track version to work with or just the 2-track. There are some timing issues on the acoustic guitar mostly toward the end of the last chorus. The drums sound very mechanical, I'm guessing a drum machine. To me the song could be re-recorded in a higher key. The melody doesn't vary enough to be sung that low. I do like the message, but the recording could use a lot more punch and drive. Try the song in the key of G or A so the vocal can proclaim the message loud& proud.

Agree with MMS above that when you re-record you might select a higher key. The words will pop out more and sounds like your voice will be able to handle it without any problem. Just a note in migrating from reel-to-reel to digital (especially if you've listened to the songs you've recorded often). The digital recordings will be much "clearer", but won't have the same feel as analog. Really freaked me out in the beginning when trying to redo a bunch of songs from analog. One thing I found that helped is a plug-in that helps make your recording sound like old analog reel-to-reel. There are a few free VST plugins out there that do the job reasonably well. jjb |

The track is pretty clean and the vocal sits right out front . However I agree with musicmaker about the key of your tune .A higher key would give the whole thing more energy and edge I think . I'd also like to hear a bit more in the way interplay between your vocal the various instruments . You could probably eliminate some of the hiss with a sound editor of some kind . nice job roysboy |

I do have the 2" master tape still, but I don't have the 3M tape deck to play it on. You are listening to a casset tape recorded to digital through cool edit pro 2.0 and then saved to MP3. The song was recorded with a six piece band while they were performing. The drummer played a set of Simmonds electric drums through an akai sampler, but no sequencer. The Symbols and Hi Hats were zillgin. That band is no longer together but the song is mine so I will rerecord it in the future. Thanks Zhavoney |
