Default House of the Rising Sun

Hi guys

First post here - so why not dive in
Here's an instrumental recording (made with Cubase 4.5) of the ol' classic. Backing made with my keyboard - and solo with the ol' Strat playing thru a Roland VG-99.
(I left out the organ, that I don't care for and added some strings instead).

The result should be a Shadows-like sound.
Probably a bit oldfashioned - but I love the old instrumentals....

A bit reminiscent of Duane Eddy and The Ventures, among others. In the very beginning the guitar is super clean. Then when the other parts come in, it sounds a bit "hot" thru my headphones. It would sound cleaner to me if the volumes were brought down a little without losing the balance and energy. That said, nice job!

When you say "hot" do you mean distorted? I used T-Racks at the end and may have overdone the compression-part - however, it's cranked up to 0 DB and therefore should be hot without distorting.

Maybe if I used a real guitar for intro instead of a keyboard-guitar the hotness would be more evenly distributed?

Maybe a little too much compression; seems right on the edge of distorting (although that may just be me). Sometimes when I do a heavy compress (and add a limiter) it sounds good, but gets a little hairy when I down-convert to mp3.

Yeah - It's not quite as "scary" on the 40 mb wav.file.
But it does tend to deteriorate as mp3. However, the "hot" signal IS something, that I strive for.....

I pressed plat and a smile lit up my face. I love this song anyway, but hearing the 'verbed strat with what should really be a bigsby trem (couldnt tell if it is or not - probably not!) just did it for me.
Beautiful sound on the guitar. Shame that the background instruments seem out of fitting with the old skool vibe - the strings sound very fake. I reckon strip it back and maybe cut the strings out and replace with a subtle but soaring guitar harmony and youll be in for a treat - as will everyone else

Thanks for your comments.
Bigsby it aint - just the regular fitted trem on at Custsom Shop Strat NOS 56.
String sound - and the rest - could obviosly be better, as they are all from a Tyros 3 keyboard. I recently got hold of Kontakt 3, so maybe I'll try to re-record with better sounds. Also the idea of a second lead is interesting, Might give it a shot....

i throughly enjoyed this rendition of this classic. With some soulful Chris Isaak vocals, this would be killer. Great job. Love to hear the follow-up.
