Thanks - thats my slide. yes on the piano - I mixed with earbuds - and its easier to hear it on them.. I'll try putting piano up a bit - or maybe try a garageband compressor? also do you think the acoustic could use a better tuning? or maybe its ok as is?

well. one could always remix things to try and "find" something that got lost in the mix - but you have a very effective mix there. it WORKS. for me anyway. i wouldn't change a thing, but you can always play with it and see what you come up with. the acoustic and piano are both fine by me. if you ask 20 ppl they'll prolly give you 20 different ideas of what to do with YOUR song. how do you get such sustain and distortion on your slide ? sounds as good as David Lindley's on Jackson Brown's "You Love The Thunder". maybe even better. tasty licks too. (of course Lindley's playing lap steel.) yall are a good band. what's the name and who are the players ? Last edited by Post Toastie; 05-04-2009 at 11:49 PM. |

Hmm. Call me a cynic, but I disagree. I think the vocals are too low in the mix. The snare is too dry and has no crack to it. Try adding a bit of reverb and some EQ with a boost at around 4kHz. Is there a bass player in your band? I sure didn't hear one (at least not until I TRIED to hear one later in the song). Try compressing it to even out it's dynamics. I agree about the piano. It could come up a bit. Had you not already revealed it to be true, I would've guessed that a guitarist mixed this. I think the acoustic IS in fact slightly out of tune. It's also very thin, like it was recorded direct. Put a couple mics on that sucker and rerecord it in tune. Or rerecord it direct and run it to a delay to widen it out a bit. I'm also not really getting any sense of space on the mix as a whole. The drums sound like they were recorded in the deadest of dead rooms. The slide guitar sounds decent at best for being recorded direct. If recording it through an amp is out of the question, try running what you have through a short delay and putting one side out of phase to bring it out front a bit and then maybe a bit of reverb to give it some sense of space. Same for vocals. They are very dry. Or maybe you want it to sound dryer than the Sahara? What do I know? I do like the song though. It has potential.

I've got to go with "minundermatter's" comments above ...especially with regards to the drum sound. Should sparle a little more for "life" in the mix , I think .Kik has a nice thump ...there but not overwhelming. Love the electric guitar sound and the nice fat vocal sound you are getting ....what kind of microphone ? yeah , bring the piano up in the mix a little , maybe add some high end eq overall and you've got a great sounding tune .. roysboy |

I don't think the vocal is too low in the mix, but a bit more compression will make it sit better.
